- Horses do like routine ... and they have their favourite itching spots and even itching times!
- We found, during our studies of his behaviour, that if we altered Flint's routine, then sometimes he would "forget" to itch. In fact, we believe that some horses get into the routine of scratching on their favourite post or corner ... even if they don't have an itch! It's worth trying this theory out.
- Stable or field toys may also help to take their mind off itching.
- Don't forget, "if you really do have an itch, then you must scratch it!" Try identifying his favourite itching spots in the field or stable and "round" them off, so that even if he does itch, it won't damage his skin.
- Rubber tyres could prove useful as "bumpers" on posts or concrete corners.
- Midge bites seem to itch the day after the bite happened.
- Midges find it hard to fly in wind. Try to use an exposed field away from woods or streams too.
- If you are washing your horse, why not add a couple of squirts of Flint's Remedy lotion to the last rinse. It will really help.
- Does your horse get little spots of blood dripping from the skin around his sheath or her udder? - this may well have been caused by Horn Flies. Flint's Remedy has been proven to repel these and not harm this sensitive area of the horse.
